(Seoul = Yonhap News) — The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) announced that it held the “1st Korea-Japan Exchange Special Committee – Japan Association of Corporate Executives Meeting” on April 16 at the ANA InterContinental Hotel Tokyo.

This event marked the first official meeting jointly hosted by KITA’s Korea-Japan Exchange Special Committee, launched in February, and Keizai Doyukai (Japan Association of Corporate Executives), one of Japan’s three major business organizations.

According to KITA, the meeting aimed to establish a sustained exchange channel between Korean and Japanese companies and to discuss cooperation on global economic issues.

On the Korean side, Cho Hyun-joon, Chairman of Hyosung Group and Chair of the Korea-Japan Exchange Special Committee, and Kim Nam-jung, Vice Chairman of Dongwon Group, attended along with 10 other executives from major companies with strong business ties to Japan.

From the Japanese side, Genichi Tamatsuka, President and CEO of Lotte Holdings Co., Ltd., and Kanetsugu Mike, Chairman of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), joined 10 representatives from leading Japanese corporations.

In his opening remarks, Chairman Cho Hyun-joon stated,

“Business leaders in both Korea and Japan are facing common challenges such as low birth rates and aging populations, supply-chain crises, instability in the Middle East, and uncertainty from major countries’ elections. Let us gather our wisdom and seek solutions together.”

Genichi Tamatsuka said,

“The launch of KITA’s Korea-Japan Exchange Special Committee has created a continuous communication channel between Korean and Japanese companies, which is encouraging. Through these meetings, we hope to share experiences and know-how and work together to overcome internal and external challenges.”

During the session, participants discussed topics such as possible trade policy shifts after the U.S. presidential election in November, supply-chain disruptions caused by climate change and natural disasters, and regulations in the AI industry.

Kim Go-hyun, Executive Managing Director of KITA and the meeting’s host, said,

“The Korea-Japan Exchange Special Committee serves as a key channel to convey the voices of Korean export companies to the Japanese business community. KITA will continue to support efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.”
